CUYAHOGA FALLS, MAY 29 — After an end-of-semester hiatus, eyeoncleveland is back in action with a potpourri of stories.
First up will be a “behind the headlines” story about the work of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission (GCSC) and the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) supporting the NCAA Division III men’s baseball national championship series. There were 64 teams selected for this tournament, reduced to eight teams playing for the national championship in a double-elimination, best-of-three for the title tournament which begins tomorrow (Friday, May 30) at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake (Oh). The championship will run through June 5 and could entail as many as 17 games.
Eyeoncleveland.com is NOT covering the tournament, but will feature a story about how the GCSC and the NCAC are supporting it.
Our friends at d3baseball.com ARE covering the tournament. Below is a link to their website, containing a wealth of information (including rosters and key players) on all eight teams.

Tuesday (June 3) is a special day in and around Akron, as Goodyear celebrates the 100th anniversary of its first blimp, Pilgrim. There will be three Goodyear Blimps, Wingfoot One, Wingfoot Two, and Wingfoot Three, all flying over the city on June 3-4-5 (weather permitting). Eyeoncleveland.com will have some details about this, but if you can’t wait be sure to catch the story which Mark Price of the Akron Beacon Journal wrote about this earlier in the week. Next, my (John Kerezy’s) college, Cuyahoga Community College, received the Innovation of the Year Award for one aspect of its HELP IS HERE program. The award, presented to a team of people at Tri-C, specifically recognized the work of faculty (colleagues in counseling) and partners in the School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering and Computer Science for the successful redesign of the “Help is Here” application for iPhones and android cell phones. Here’s a link to a story about the award.

You’ll recall that eyeoncleveland.com ran a two-part series about the new aspects of Help is Here about four months ago. Below are links to those two stories.

Finally, I’ve personally become convinced that one of the biggest monumental challenges facing our government today is our federal deficit/debt. The national debt is at more than $36.2 trillion ($36,216,749,730,152 to be exact, according to the Peterson Foundation) , and it doesn’t seem that Congress has the ability to stop the debt from spiraling our nation into a future financial crisis. Eyeoncleveland has covered this topic once before, and we’ll write about it again in the near future.
