Weiland, offense pace Revere to victory

RICHFIELD — Aiden Weiland hurled a shutout and Revere’s offense turned in timely hit after timely hit as the Minutemen upended Beachwood 10-0 Monday afternoon in a Region 5, Division II District Semi Final game.

Revere, now 22-7 and ranked No. 9 in Division II in the state, will oppose either Triway or Hoban HS in the District Final on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Triway’s Trojans and the Knights play at 5 p.m. today, with the winner advancing to oppose Revere.

Weiland, a junior left hander, improved to 6-1 in his 11th game of the year for the Minutemen, who are also Suburban League tournament champions this season.

Junior outfielder Ryan Shimek, senior catcher Owen Desberg are among the many Minutemen who turned in quality at bats in the contest.

“We played like our identity today,” Revere Coach Jason Cottrell said to his players after the tame. “We ran the bases like our identity. Everybody did their job.”

Cottrell added that the Minutemen still have more hills to climb. “Our goal was never just to get to the District Finals” he reminded his players.

Revere took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, added a run in the fourth, then added three scores each in the fifth and sixth to claim the triumph. Beachwood ended its season with a 13-11 mark.
