CLEVELAND, Aug. 10 — While many of its brick-and-mortar bookstores have closed, Christian publishing has maintained its strong and steady presence in the publishing marketplace. Bible sales increased by 20% in 2024 and another 14% in 2025. The industry is an $820 million sector of the general publishing market, according to the Steve Laube Agency.

One of the industry’s up-and-coming writers is Cleveland’s Alexis Wohler. By focusing her writing on Christianity and Christ since her college years more than a decade ago, she has confidently and quietly established herself as a strong, faith-based writer and storyteller.

“God’s placed a pen in my hand and a calling on my heart for 11 years now,” says Alexis. “I devoted nearly six of those years as a professional Christian ghostwriter, helping others bring their books, devotionals, and prayer journals to life. Through every manuscript, every prayer, and every quiet moment of listening for His voice, the one dream that has always stayed with me has been to write for His glory, under my own name.”

A Passion for the great story

From her early days at Cuyahoga Community College* and Kent State University, Alexis has written about her faith. She penned a regular column on Christianity in the  Daily Kent Stater  while obtaining her bachelor’s degree in journalism at Kent State. More than a year before her graduation, she went to work as a writer at Union Gospel Press. There she composed long-form features and editorials for teens and adults at the  Gospel Herald  and  Gospel Press, including Take-Home Activities for Gospel Press’  Little Builders, Forming Foundations,  and  Standing Strong  magazines.

Union Gospel Press published Alexis’s 13-part adult devotional series, Tender Talks, focused on developing a lasting relationship with the Lord through prayer. She also branched out into both paid and volunteer assignments for a variety of Christian magazines and websites. Her body of work includes features for  Deliberate Magazine  (San Diego), short-form devotionals for Keys For Kids and Keys For Kids Unlocked, long-form blogging for Beliefnet (“We Wait, He Works”), and feature writing for  The Christian Heart.

As a volunteer feature writer and interview manager for Faith Filled Family Magazine, she also had an opportunity to hone her storytelling skills by interviewing and writing stories about Christian artists and leaders including Avalon, Steven Curtis Chapman, Rebecca St. James, Hannah Kerr, Leanna Crawford, Danny Gokey, and Michael Card.

“I was responsible for writing, editing, and getting each piece published, while also coordinating assignments for other writers and some PR communications,” Alexis recalls.

From the get-go, Alexis chose to make her work focus on God and Jesus Christ.

“I believe with my whole heart that God has gifted me to write devotionals, prayer journals, Bible studies, and study Bibles that will reach believers at every stage of their walk with Him,” she says.

Ghostwriting and Devotional Writing

Alexis also spent several years as a ghostwriter, one who creates content for others. Autobiographies, memoirs, thought-leadership articles, speeches, and op-ed opinion columns are frequently the work of ghostwriters.

Earlier in 2026, Alexis decided to create her own ministry and continue growing professionally by writing, editing, and publishing under her own name. She plans to continue ghostwriting services through her ministry, titled For His Glory, as well as writing her own (authored) devotionals, prayer journals, and Bible studies.

“God’s calling has led me to start a Christian writing ministry, aiming to create devotionals and prayer journals that can truly impact lives,” she says. “The writing ministry, which I’m calling  For His Glory, is dedicated to crafting devotionals, prayer journals, and Bible studies that can speak to every generation, from children taking their first steps in faith to seasoned believers seeking deeper truths.”
